Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the refrigerator and shut off the water supply before working on the dispenser or water valve.
Steps:
- 1. Check water supply: Confirm that the household shutoff valve is open and the supply hose to the IceKing refrigerator is not kinked.
- 2. Test the dispenser lever: Press the dispenser paddle and listen for a click from the micro-switch and a hum from the water valve. No sound may indicate a switch or electrical issue.
- 3. Inspect the dispenser switch: Remove the dispenser front panel (usually clips off after removing a trim piece). Test the micro-switch for continuity when pressed. Replace if it does not close properly.
- 4. Check for frozen lines: If the freezer is very cold, the water line in the door can freeze. Open the door and gently warm the dispenser area with a hair dryer on low, keeping it moving to avoid damage. Do not overheat the plastic.
- 5. Test the water inlet valve: Access the valve at the rear bottom of the unit. With power disconnected, measure resistance of the dispenser coil; an open coil indicates a failed valve that must be replaced.
- 6. Inspect door hinge wiring: On models with wiring through the top or bottom hinge, flexing can break conductors. Inspect the harness for visible damage and repair if necessary.
Note: After repairs, restore water and power, then purge air from the system by dispensing water for several minutes.
