Possible Causes
Failed ambient NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from mounting position, Damaged wiring to ambient sensor, Faulty main PCB sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Disconnect mains power before accessing any sensors or control boards.
Steps:
- 1. Identify the ambient sensor: On IceKing refrigerators, the ambient sensor is often located behind the front control panel or near the condenser area to measure room temperature.
- 2. Visual inspection: Check that the sensor is properly mounted and not hanging loose. Inspect the harness for cuts or abrasions.
- 3. Resistance test: Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to the expected NTC curve in the service documentation. Replace if open, shorted, or far out of range.
- 4. Harness continuity: If the sensor is good, test continuity from the sensor connector to the main PCB. Repair any damaged wiring.
- 5. PCB evaluation: If sensor and wiring are OK but E12 persists, the main PCB may misread the ambient sensor and should be replaced by a technician.
Note: An incorrect ambient reading can cause the refrigerator to overcool or undercool depending on the error direction.
