Possible Causes

Open-circuit freezer NTC sensor, Shorted freezer NTC sensor, Damaged wiring between freezer sensor and main PCB, Faulty main control PCB sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Always unplug the IceKing refrigerator before removing panels or testing components.

Diagnostic steps:

  • 1. Confirm the error: Note if E2 appears immediately at power-on or after some running time. Persistent E2 usually indicates a hard sensor fault.
  • 2. Access the freezer sensor: The freezer NTC is typically located on the rear wall of the freezer, clipped to the evaporator tubing or behind a small cover in the liner. Remove baskets and shelves as needed.
  • 3. Visual inspection: Check for ice buildup around the sensor, damaged insulation, or pulled/broken wires, especially near the evaporator where ice can stress the harness.
  • 4. Test the NTC: Disconnect the sensor from its connector. Using a multimeter, measure resistance at room temperature or at a known temperature (e.g., in a cup of ice water ~0°C). Compare to the expected range in the service manual; a typical NTC will be several kΩ. Replace the sensor if it reads open (OL) or near 0 Ω.
  • 5. Check harness continuity: If the sensor is in range, test continuity from the sensor connector to the main PCB connector. Repair any broken or corroded wires.
  • 6. PCB evaluation: If sensor and wiring are good but E2 remains, the main control PCB may not be reading the sensor correctly. Replacement of the PCB is recommended and should be done by a qualified technician.

Note: After replacing the sensor, clear the error by unplugging the unit for 5 minutes, then restoring power.
