Possible Causes

Clogged defrost drain hole, Cracked or misaligned drain tube, Overfilled or mispositioned drain pan, Frozen drain outlet in freezer

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator and mop up any standing water to prevent slips.

Steps:

  • 1. Locate defrost drain: Inside the freezer, behind the rear panel, there is a drain trough and hole beneath the evaporator. Water from defrost cycles should flow through this to a pan near the compressor.
  • 2. Clear blockage: Use warm water and a flexible plastic tube or pipe cleaner to flush the drain hole. Avoid metal tools that can damage the liner.
  • 3. Check external drain tube: At the rear bottom, inspect the drain tube leading to the drip tray. Ensure it is not kinked, blocked, or disconnected.
  • 4. Inspect drain pan: Make sure the pan is correctly positioned under the tube and not cracked. Replace if damaged.
  • 5. Defrost frozen outlet: If the drain outlet is frozen, fully defrost the freezer compartment and ensure the heater (if fitted around the drain) is working.

Note: Regularly cleaning the drain can prevent recurring leaks.
