Possible Causes
Failed mechanical door switch, Faulty magnetic reed sensor, Misaligned door magnet, Broken wiring in door frame
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing door switch assemblies or trim panels.
Steps:
- 1. Identify switch type: Ikea refrigerators may use a plunger-style mechanical switch or a hidden magnetic reed sensor.
- 2. Mechanical switch test: Press the switch by hand and see if the interior light turns on/off (with power connected briefly). If not, unplug and remove the switch. Test continuity with a multimeter while pressing the button. Replace if it does not change state.
- 3. Magnetic sensor: If no visible switch, the sensor is often behind the liner and triggered by a magnet in the door. Check that the door gasket and magnet strip are intact and the door closes fully.
- 4. Wiring inspection: Remove the top trim or hinge cover and inspect the wiring harness for breaks or pinched wires.
- 5. Replace faulty parts: Install a new door switch or sensor as required, ensuring it is correctly positioned to detect door movement.
Tip: A faulty door sensor can also prevent the evaporator fan from running with the door closed, affecting cooling.
