Possible Causes

Defective freezer NTC thermistor, Damaged sensor harness in freezer wall, Oxidized connector at control board, Failed main control board sensor channel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Always disconnect power before removing panels or handling wiring. Avoid using sharp tools on liner walls to prevent refrigerant leaks.

Steps to troubleshoot:

  • 1. Confirm airflow: Make sure vents in the freezer are not blocked by food. Poor airflow can cause warm temperatures and may trigger sensor-related errors.
  • 2. Access the freezer sensor: Remove baskets and shelves. Locate the small plastic cover on the rear or side wall that houses the freezer NTC sensor. Remove the cover carefully.
  • 3. Visual inspection: Check for ice buildup around the sensor. Heavy frost can insulate the sensor and cause incorrect readings. If iced over, defrost the unit fully (unplug and leave doors open with towels for several hours).
  • 4. Electrical test: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to expected NTC values at the current temperature. Replace the sensor if it reads open, shorted, or far out of spec.
  • 5. Harness and board: Trace the sensor wires to the main control board (usually at the rear or top). Check for pinched or broken wires and reseat the connector on the board. If wiring and sensor are good but F2 remains, the control board may be faulty.

Note: Do not drill or cut into the freezer liner to access wiring; this can puncture the sealed system.
