Possible Causes
Loose or damaged ribbon cable between UI and main board, Failed user interface PCB, Oxidized connectors at control panel, Main control board communication driver failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing the control panel or display assembly.
Steps:
- 1. Remove control panel: Carefully pry or unscrew the front display/control panel (usually at the top of the fresh food compartment or on the door).
- 2. Inspect ribbon cable: Check the flat cable or harness connecting the UI to the main board for kinks, cuts, or corrosion. Reseat both ends firmly.
- 3. Check for moisture: Look for signs of condensation or liquid spills that may have entered the control area. Dry thoroughly and correct any door seal issues causing excess moisture.
- 4. Visual inspection of UI board: Look for burnt components or cracked solder joints. If damaged, replace the user interface board with the correct Ikea-compatible part.
- 5. Main board check: If the UI board and cabling are good, the main control board may not be communicating properly and may require replacement.
Note: Handle ribbon cables gently; they are easily damaged by bending sharply or pulling on the conductors.
