Possible Causes
Blocked drain hole under evaporator, Ice plug in drain tube, Debris or mold buildup in drain channel, Misaligned drain heater (if equipped)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing panels or using hot water near electrical parts.
Steps:
- 1. Locate drain: In the freezer, remove drawers and the rear panel to expose the evaporator. The drain hole is usually at the bottom center of the evaporator tray.
- 2. Clear ice: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to melt ice in the drain hole. Repeat until water flows freely down the tube.
- 3. Clean drain tube: From the rear of the fridge, locate the drain outlet above the compressor. Insert a flexible plastic line or pipe cleaner to clear debris.
- 4. Check drain heater: Some models have a small heater or metal strap to keep the drain from freezing. Ensure it is correctly positioned in the drain area.
- 5. Reassemble: Dry the area, reinstall panels, and restore power.
Tip: Avoid using sharp objects in the drain; they can puncture the liner or tube.
