Possible Causes

Failed freezer evaporator fan motor, Ice build-up blocking fan, Faulty door switch preventing fan operation, Wiring fault between fan and control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before removing internal panels or fan connectors.

Step-by-step checks:

  • 1. Check for airflow: Open the freezer door and feel for air movement from the vents with the door switch held closed (fan should run when door is 'closed'). If no airflow, suspect the fan or heavy ice build-up.
  • 2. Inspect for frost/ice build-up: Remove freezer drawers and the rear inner panel (evaporator cover). If the panel is heavily iced over, the fan blades may be jammed.
  • 3. Manual defrost: Turn the appliance off and allow it to defrost fully for 12–24 hours with doors open and towels at the base. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
  • 4. Check the fan motor: Once defrosted, spin the fan blades by hand; they should turn freely. Inspect wiring and connector to the fan. If the fan does not run when powered and commanded by the control board, replace the fan motor with the correct Indesit evaporator fan assembly.
  • 5. Door switch test: Locate the freezer door switch (usually in the frame). Press it in and listen for the fan starting. If the fan only runs when the switch is bypassed, replace the door switch.

When to call a technician: If the fan receives correct voltage from the PCB but still does not run, or if the PCB is not sending power to a known-good fan, the main control board may need replacement and programming.
