Possible Causes

Failed dispenser micro-switch, Broken dispenser lever, Loose wiring in dispenser housing, Faulty dispenser control board (on models with separate board)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator and shut off the water supply before working on the dispenser.

Inspect the dispenser area:

  • Remove the drip tray and any visible screws around the dispenser panel.
  • Carefully pry off the dispenser trim to access the switches and wiring.
  • Check the lever and switch: Press the dispenser lever and observe whether it actuates the micro-switch. Look for broken plastic tabs or misalignment.
  • Test the micro-switch: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the switch and check continuity with a multimeter while pressing the actuator. Replace if it does not change state.
  • Inspect wiring: Ensure all connectors are firmly seated and wires are not pinched or broken.
  • Replace faulty parts: Install a new Insignia-compatible dispenser switch or lever as needed. If the model uses a small dispenser control board and it shows signs of damage, replace that board.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the dispenser panel, restore power and water, and test dispensing. The E12 code should clear if the fault is corrected.

Warning: Avoid getting water on electrical components during testing.
