Possible Causes
Loose ribbon cable between UI and main board, Failed user interface (display) board, Corroded connectors at control panel, Faulty main control board communication circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing the control panel.
Access the user interface:
- On Insignia models, the UI is typically on the front of the refrigerator door or inside the fresh food compartment.
- Remove any screws or trim securing the control panel and gently pull it away to expose the wiring.
- Check ribbon cable and connectors: Ensure the flat ribbon cable or harness is fully seated at both the UI board and the main harness connector. Reseat all connectors.
- Inspect for moisture or corrosion: Look for signs of condensation or liquid damage on the UI board. Clean light corrosion with isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush.
- Power reset: After reseating connectors, restore power and see if the E13 code clears.
- Replace UI board if needed: If the code persists and buttons or display are unresponsive, replace the user interface board with an Insignia-compatible part.
Note: If a new UI board does not resolve the issue, the main control board may be at fault and should be diagnosed by a technician.
