Possible Causes
Misaligned door magnet, Failed reed switch in cabinet, Loose door sensor wiring, Warped door gasket preventing full closure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing internal sensors.
Check door closure:
- Verify that all doors close fully and evenly. Look for items or shelves preventing full closure.
- Inspect door gaskets for tears, warping, or debris that might hold the door open.
- Locate door magnet and sensor: On some Insignia models, a magnet in the door aligns with a reed switch in the cabinet frame.
- Check alignment: Ensure the magnet lines up with the sensor area when the door is closed. Adjust door hinges slightly if needed.
- Test reed switch: With the unit unplugged, access the sensor in the cabinet and test continuity while placing a magnet near it. Replace the reed switch if it does not change state.
- Replace faulty components: Install a new Insignia-compatible reed switch or door gasket as required.
- Restore power and test: Plug the unit back in and confirm that the E17/door-ajar warning clears when doors are closed.
Note: Persistent false door-ajar warnings after sensor replacement may indicate a control board issue.
