Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing internal components.
Check settings and airflow:
- Verify temperature settings are at recommended levels (around 37–40°F for fridge, 0°F for freezer).
- Ensure air vents are not blocked by food items.
- Inspect thermistor: Locate the refrigerator thermistor on the rear interior wall. Ensure it is properly mounted and not touching a cold air outlet directly.
- Replace thermistor if suspect: If the fridge is freezing food despite normal settings, replace the Insignia refrigerator thermistor as described in the E1 scenario.
- Check air damper (if equipped): Some models have a motorized damper between freezer and fridge. If stuck open, it can overcool the fridge. Inspect for ice or mechanical jams and clear them.
Note: If replacing the thermistor and clearing obstructions does not resolve the issue, the main control board may be misreading temperatures and require replacement.
