Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain tube, Frozen drain hole under evaporator, Cracked or misaligned drain pan, Excessive humidity causing heavy defrost water
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator and mop up standing water to prevent slips.
Clear defrost drain:
- Empty the freezer and remove the rear interior panel.
- Locate the drain hole at the bottom of the evaporator tray.
- If iced over, use warm water in a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to melt the ice and flush the drain.
- Clean drain tube: From the back of the refrigerator, locate the drain tube leading to the drain pan. Remove and flush it with warm water to clear debris.
- Inspect drain pan: Ensure the pan above the compressor is not cracked and is properly positioned to catch water.
- Reassemble and monitor: Restore power and check over the next few days for any recurring leaks.
Note: If leaks persist, check for door gasket leaks causing excessive frost and defrost water.
