Possible Causes
Open or shorted ice maker thermistor, Damaged harness in freezer door, Loose connector at ice maker module, Faulty main control board sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing the ice maker or door panels. Water lines may drip; keep towels handy.
- Inspect ice maker area: Remove the ice bin and visually inspect the ice maker assembly and its wiring harness for damage or pinched wires.
- Locate ice maker thermistor: On many JennAir models, the thermistor is integrated into the ice maker or mounted near the ice box. Check that it is properly positioned and not hanging loose.
- Check door harness: At the bottom hinge, inspect the wiring bundle going into the freezer door for breaks or kinks.
- Replace sensor or ice maker: If the thermistor is integrated and tests bad, replace the entire ice maker assembly. If it is separate, replace the ice maker thermistor only.
- Control board: If wiring and sensor are good but E5 persists, the main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and should be checked by a technician.
