Possible Causes
Open or shorted ambient thermistor, Sensor dislodged from proper location, Damaged harness to control board, Faulty main control board sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing any sensors behind panels or grilles.
- Locate ambient sensor: On many JennAir models, the ambient thermistor is located behind the toe grille or in the machine compartment, sensing room temperature.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Check for broken wires, corrosion, or a sensor that has come loose from its mounting point.
- Test sensor: Remove the thermistor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the expected NTC value (~2.7–3.5 kΩ at 77°F). Replace if open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Reinstall correctly: Mount the new sensor in the same location, away from hot components like the compressor or condenser.
- Control board: If E7 remains after sensor replacement and wiring checks, the main control board may be faulty and should be evaluated by a technician.
