Possible Causes

Clogged defrost drain, Cracked water filter housing, Loose water line connection, Leaking inlet valve

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator and shut off the water supply before working on water lines. Floors may be slippery—wipe up spills promptly.

  • Identify leak source: Pull the unit forward and inspect under and behind it while someone briefly turns the water back on. Look for drips from the water inlet valve, filter housing, or tubing.
  • Check defrost drain: If water appears at the front center, the defrost drain may be clogged. Remove the freezer rear panel, locate the drain trough, and clear ice and debris. Flush with hot water using a turkey baster.
  • Inspect filter housing: Look for cracks or leaks around the water filter housing. Replace if leaking.
  • Tighten fittings: Check all push-in and threaded water connections. Reseat or replace any leaking tubing or fittings.
  • Replace inlet valve: If the water inlet valve drips even when not dispensing or filling, replace it.
