Possible Causes
Blocked defrost drain tube, Ice buildup in drain trough, Debris in drain grommet, Misaligned drain pan
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing interior panels. Use towels to catch melting ice and water.
- Access freezer drain: Remove freezer shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator and drain trough.
- Clear ice and debris: Remove visible ice from the drain trough. Use hot (not boiling) water in a turkey baster to flush the defrost drain tube until water flows freely into the drain pan below.
- Check drain grommet: From the rear bottom of the unit, locate the rubber drain grommet where the tube exits into the pan. Remove and clean it if clogged with sludge.
- Reassemble: Reinstall panels and shelves once the drain is clear. Monitor for recurrence; if it clogs repeatedly, the drain heater or routing may need adjustment by a technician.
