How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing the evaporator or control board.
Steps:
- 1. Inspect evaporator frost pattern: Remove the rear interior panel and check if the evaporator is heavily iced over or completely bare.
- 2. Test defrost heater and thermostat: With power off, disconnect heater and thermostat and check continuity. Replace any open components.
- 3. Test defrost thermistor: Measure resistance at known temperatures and compare to spec. Replace if out of range.
- 4. If all components test good: The main control board may not be initiating defrost correctly and may need replacement.
