Possible Causes
Open or shorted refrigerator thermistor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Loose connector at control board, Faulty main control board ADC
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing sensors or the control board.
Steps:
- 1. Locate refrigerator thermistor: Typically found behind a small plastic cover on the rear interior wall of the fresh food compartment or clipped to the evaporator.
- 2. Remove sensor cover: Pry off the cover gently with a plastic tool and pull the sensor forward.
- 3. Inspect wiring: Check for pinched, cut, or corroded wires. Ensure the connector is firmly seated.
- 4. Measure resistance: Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the service chart; 0 ohms or OL indicates failure.
- 5. Replace thermistor: If readings are out of spec, install a new OEM refrigerator thermistor and route wires as originally installed.
- 6. Check control board connection: If the sensor is good, inspect the harness connection at the main control board for bent pins or corrosion.
