Possible Causes

Unplugged or broken thermistor, Broken wire in cabinet harness, Corroded sensor connector, Failed main control board input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before testing sensors.

Steps:

  • 1. Identify which sensor: OP may appear next to the freezer or refrigerator temperature, indicating which thermistor is open.
  • 2. Locate that thermistor: Find the corresponding sensor in the compartment (behind a small cover or on the evaporator).
  • 3. Inspect wiring: Look for a disconnected plug or broken wire. Reseat the connector.
  • 4. Continuity test: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. OL (open) indicates a failed sensor or broken wire.
  • 5. Replace sensor: Install a new OEM thermistor if the sensor is open. If the sensor tests good, trace the harness back to the control board to find breaks.
