Possible Causes
Failed ice maker motor module, Clogged ice maker fill tube with ice, Faulty ice maker water inlet valve, Ice maker turned off or sensor blocked
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator and shut off water before disconnecting any water lines.
Steps:
- 1. Verify ice maker is on: Ensure the ice maker power switch or arm is in the ON position and that any ice level sensor is not blocked by ice.
- 2. Check for ice in fill tube: Inspect the fill tube above the ice maker for ice blockage. If frozen, thaw with a hair dryer on low and check for slow seeping from the valve (which can refreeze).
- 3. Test ice maker cycle: Use the test button (if present) to initiate a harvest. If it does not move, the motor module may be bad.
- 4. Test ice maker valve coil: Measure resistance of the ice maker solenoid on the water inlet valve. Replace the valve if the coil is open.
- 5. Replace ice maker assembly: If the valve is good but the ice maker will not cycle, replace the complete ice maker assembly.
