Possible Causes
Old water filter, Bacterial growth in water reservoir or lines, Low usage causing stagnant water, Contaminated household water supply
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Use only potable water supply. Follow manufacturer guidelines for filter replacement.
Steps:
- 1. Replace filter: Install a new OEM water filter compatible with your Kenmore refrigerator if it is older than 6 months.
- 2. Flush system: Dispense and discard at least 2–3 gallons of water to flush air and contaminants from the lines.
- 3. Discard old ice: Throw away all existing ice and allow the ice maker to produce a fresh batch.
- 4. Clean dispenser: Wipe the dispenser nozzle and ice chute with a mild bleach solution (then rinse) to remove biofilm.
- 5. Check supply: If taste issues persist, have your household water tested; the problem may be upstream of the refrigerator.
