Possible Causes

Frozen water line in refrigerator door, Kinked water line behind unit, Clogged water filter, Faulty dispenser switch or actuator

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the water supply if disconnecting any lines. Unplug the refrigerator before removing dispenser covers.

Steps to resolve:

  • Check water filter: Replace the water filter with a genuine KitchenAid filter and flush 2–3 gallons of water.
  • Inspect supply line: Pull the refrigerator out and check the water line for kinks or sharp bends. Straighten as needed.
  • Test for frozen line: Open the freezer and refrigerator doors as little as possible for 24 hours and slightly increase the refrigerator temperature setting. In some models, the dispenser line runs through the fresh food door and can thaw with warmer settings.
  • Door bottom test (if accessible): Some models have a quick-connect fitting at the bottom of the door. Disconnect it and briefly activate the dispenser (with a container to catch water). If water flows here but not at the dispenser, the line in the door is frozen.

If the line repeatedly freezes or if there is no power to the dispenser valve, further electrical and mechanical diagnosis by a technician is recommended.
