Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator and turn off the water supply before working on water lines. Floors may be slippery; use caution.
Steps to resolve:
- Identify leak source: Pull the refrigerator out and inspect behind and underneath. Check for water around the drain pan, inlet valve, and filter housing.
- Clear defrost drain: Inside the freezer, remove the rear panel. At the bottom of the evaporator tray, locate the drain hole. Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster to flush the drain until water flows freely into the drain pan below.
- Check water connections: Inspect the water inlet valve and plastic tubing for drips while the water supply is on. Tighten compression fittings gently if needed.
- Inspect filter housing: Remove the water filter and check the housing for cracks or leaks when dispensing water.
If leaks persist from internal tubing or the cabinet, or if you cannot clear the drain, contact a technician to avoid water damage and mold growth.
