Possible Causes
Weak or intermittent defrost heater, Intermittent defrost thermostat, Faulty defrost sensor (thermistor), Main PCB defrost timing fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before testing heater or thermostat.
- Visual check: Remove the freezer rear panel and inspect the evaporator for partial frost coverage. Thick frost indicates defrost issues.
- Test heater and thermostat: As with Er dH, check continuity of the heater and thermostat when cold.
- Check defrost sensor: Measure resistance of the evaporator thermistor and compare to LG specifications. Replace if out of range.
- Control board: If all components test good, the main PCB may not be controlling defrost cycles correctly and may require replacement.
