Possible Causes

Seized or failed ice fan motor, Ice obstruction in fan blades, Disconnected or damaged fan wiring, Defective main control board fan driver

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before removing ice room covers or handling wiring.

  • Inspect for frost: Remove the ice bin and check for heavy frost around the ice fan vents. Manually clear loose frost; use a hair dryer on low to melt stubborn ice.
  • Check fan movement: With the cover removed (power off), gently spin the fan blades by hand. If stiff or jammed, clear obstructions or replace the fan.
  • Test fan motor: Disconnect the fan and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
  • Verify voltage (advanced): With power restored and extreme caution, check for DC voltage at the fan connector when the fan should be running. If no voltage and wiring is intact, the main PCB may be faulty.
  • Replace fan assembly: Install a new LG-compatible ice fan motor, reassemble the ice room, and restore power.
