Possible Causes
Failed ice room fan motor, Ice buildup around ice fan, Faulty ice room thermistor, Loose or damaged wiring to ice assembly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before working in the ice compartment.
- Check for ice blockage: Remove the ice bin and inspect the ice room for frost or ice buildup around the fan vents. If present, defrost the area with a hair dryer on low, keeping it moving to avoid warping plastic.
- Listen for fan operation: After restoring power (doors closed), listen near the ice compartment for the fan. If silent and the error persists, suspect the fan motor.
- Access ice fan: Remove the ice room cover and ducting (screws and clips) to reach the fan assembly.
- Inspect wiring: Check the fan connector and wiring harness for damage or loose connections.
- Replace faulty parts: If the fan blades are seized or the motor tests open with a multimeter, replace the ice room fan assembly. If the thermistor in the ice room is damaged, replace it as well.
Note: Some models combine the ice fan and sensor in a single assembly; match the part to your model number.
