Possible Causes
Open or shorted refrigerator thermistor, Loose or corroded thermistor connector, Damaged door hinge harness (for French door models), Failed main control board (PCB)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before accessing sensors or control boards.
- Reset control: Unplug for 5 minutes, then restore power. If Er rS reappears, proceed.
- Locate refrigerator thermistor: Inside the fresh food section, look for a small plastic cover on the back or side wall. Remove the cover to access the sensor.
- Visual inspection: Check for moisture intrusion, broken clips, or damaged wires. Ensure the connector is firmly attached.
- Test sensor: With the sensor unplugged, measure resistance. At ~41°F (5°C), LG thermistors are typically around 20–25 kΩ. Replace if open, shorted, or far out of spec.
- Check harness: On French door models, inspect the wire harness running through the top hinge for pinched or broken wires. Repair or replace harness if damaged.
- Control board: If the thermistor and wiring are good, the main PCB may not be reading the sensor correctly and may need replacement.
Note: Always match the replacement thermistor to your exact LG model number.
