Possible Causes
Failed refrigerator evaporator fan motor, Ice blockage in air ducts, Stuck air damper, Evaporator coil heavily frosted due to defrost failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing interior panels.
- Check vents: Ensure vents in the refrigerator are not blocked by food items.
- Listen for fan: With the door switch held closed, listen for the refrigerator fan. If silent, suspect the fan motor.
- Inspect evaporator: Remove the rear interior panel in the fresh food section. If the coil is encased in ice, defrost it and test the defrost heater and thermostat.
- Check damper: On models with a damper, verify that it opens when the refrigerator calls for cooling. Replace if stuck closed.
