Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator. Work only if you are comfortable around high-voltage components. The sealed system itself should be serviced only by certified technicians.
Steps:
- Access the compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower access panel to expose the compressor, start relay, and capacitor.
- Inspect the start relay and capacitor: Look for burn marks, melted plastic, or a swollen capacitor. Gently shake the relay; if it rattles, it is often failed.
- Replace suspect components: If the relay or capacitor shows signs of failure, replace them with Magic Chef-compatible compressor start relay and run capacitor kits. Ensure correct wiring orientation as per the wiring diagram on the unit.
- Check wiring connections: Confirm all spade terminals are tight on the compressor pins and control board.
- Restore power and observe: Plug in the refrigerator and listen for the compressor to start within a few minutes. The E6 code should clear if the start circuit is restored.
Warning: If the compressor hums briefly then clicks off repeatedly even with new start components, the compressor itself may be locked or failing and requires professional sealed-system service.
