Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice buildup around fan blades, Loose fan wiring harness, Faulty control board fan output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before opening interior panels.
Steps:
- Access the evaporator fan: Remove freezer shelves and the rear interior panel. The fan is mounted above or in front of the evaporator coil.
- Check for ice obstruction: Look for ice encasing the fan blades or shroud. If present, allow the unit to defrost fully (doors open, towels down) or use a hair dryer on low setting at a safe distance to melt ice. Do not overheat plastic parts.
- Spin the fan by hand: It should rotate freely without grinding. If stiff or noisy, the motor bearings may be failing.
- Inspect wiring: Ensure the fan connector is tight and wires are intact.
- Replace the fan motor if needed: Remove mounting screws, disconnect the harness, and install a Magic Chef-compatible evaporator fan motor. Transfer the fan blade if separate.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the panel and shelves, restore power, and verify the fan runs when the compressor is on. The E8 code should clear.
