Possible Causes
Door not sealing or left ajar, Excessive frost on evaporator, Failed freezer thermistor, Weak compressor or low refrigerant charge
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing interior panels.
Steps:
- Check door seal: Inspect the freezer door gasket for gaps, tears, or warping. Perform a paper test: close the door on a sheet of paper; you should feel resistance when pulling it out. Replace the gasket if it does not seal.
- Look for frost buildup: Heavy frost on the back wall suggests a defrost issue. Manually defrost the unit and then troubleshoot the defrost system (see E4 scenario).
- Thermistor check: Test or replace the freezer thermistor as described in the E2 scenario if temperatures remain high.
- Compressor performance: If both compartments are warm and the compressor runs constantly without cycling off, the sealed system may be weak or low on refrigerant. This requires a certified technician.
