Possible Causes
Blocked drain hole under evaporator, Ice plug in drain tube, Debris or mold buildup in drain line, Drain heater (if equipped) not functioning
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing panels and working with warm water.
Steps:
- Access the drain: Remove freezer shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator. The drain hole is typically centered beneath the coil.
- Clear ice: Use warm (not boiling) water and a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to melt ice in the drain hole. Repeat until water flows freely.
- Clean drain tube: From the back of the refrigerator, locate the drain tube leading to the drain pan. Remove and flush it with warm water to clear debris.
- Check drain pan: Ensure the drain pan above the compressor is properly positioned and not cracked.
- Reassemble: Reinstall panels and shelves, then restore power.
