Possible Causes
Ice plug in drain tube, Food debris blocking drain hole, Poor insulation around drain causing refreezing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing interior panels.
- Locate drain: In many Maytag models, the defrost drain is at the bottom of the freezer compartment under the evaporator.
- Remove ice: Use warm (not boiling) water to melt ice in the drain trough and hole. A turkey baster works well.
- Verify flow: Continue flushing until water flows freely into the drain pan under the unit.
If the drain repeatedly freezes, installing an updated drain tube or drain heater (if available for your model) can prevent recurrence.
