Possible Causes

Blocked drain hole under evaporator, Ice plug in drain tube, Debris or mold in drain line, Cracked drain funnel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the refrigerator and be prepared for water spillage.

Steps:

  • Locate defrost drain: Remove the freezer rear interior panel to expose the evaporator. At the bottom center, locate the drain hole or trough.
  • Clear ice and debris: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to flush the drain hole until water flows freely into the drain pan under the unit.
  • Clean drain tube: From the back of the refrigerator, remove the rear lower panel and locate the drain tube leading to the drain pan. Detach and clean it with warm water and a flexible brush if accessible.
  • Check drain pan: Ensure the drain pan is properly positioned and not cracked.
  • Reassemble and monitor: Reinstall panels, restore power, and monitor for leaks over the next few days.
