Possible Causes

Failed evaporator temperature sensor, Open or shorted defrost sensor clipped to evaporator, Wiring harness damage in evaporator compartment

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before removing interior panels. Evaporator fins are sharp; wear cut‑resistant gloves.

Steps:

  • Access evaporator area: Remove shelves and rear interior panel in the affected compartment (fridge or freezer, depending on model). If the panel is frozen in place, allow the unit to defrost with doors open and towels on the floor.
  • Inspect for heavy ice: If the evaporator is encased in ice, the defrost system is not working correctly. This can be due to a bad defrost sensor or heater.
  • Locate sensors: Miele evaporator/defrost sensors are usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or mounted on the evaporator frame. Check for broken clips, loose mounting, or damaged wires.
  • Test sensors: With a multimeter, measure resistance of each sensor and compare to service data. A sensor reading 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) is defective.
  • Replace faulty sensor: Unclip the sensor, route the new sensor wiring along the original path, and secure it away from moving fan blades. Reassemble panels and restore power.

Call a professional if you suspect a control board issue or if you are not comfortable working near the evaporator and defrost heater wiring.
