Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain hole, Ice plug in drain tube, Debris or mold buildup in drain channel, Kinked or misrouted drain hose to evaporator pan
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before working inside compartments.
Steps:
- Locate drain: The defrost drain is usually at the lowest point under the evaporator cover in the fridge or freezer.
- Clear ice: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster to melt ice in the drain hole until water flows freely.
- Clean drain tube: From the rear, locate the drain outlet above the compressor and gently insert a flexible plastic line or pipe cleaner to clear debris.
- Sanitize: Flush with a mild bleach solution to discourage future mold growth.
