Possible Causes
Defective freezer NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator wall, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty main control board sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance before accessing the freezer panels or wiring.
Steps:
- Reset attempt: Disconnect power for 5–10 minutes and reconnect. If E2 reappears, proceed.
- Access the freezer sensor: Remove freezer drawers and the rear interior panel (often clipped or screwed). The NTC sensor is usually clipped to the evaporator or mounted on the rear wall.
- Visual inspection: Check if the sensor is iced over, broken, or has damaged insulation. Ensure it is firmly clipped to the evaporator or in its holder.
- Defrost if iced: If the sensor is encased in ice, allow a full manual defrost (doors open, towels in place) for several hours until all ice is gone, then reassemble and test. If E2 returns, test the sensor.
- Test the sensor: With a multimeter, measure resistance at room temperature and compare to spec. Replace if open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Check wiring: Inspect and test continuity from the sensor to the main PCB. Repair any breaks or corroded connectors.
- Replace components: Fit a new Neff freezer NTC sensor if faulty. If sensor and wiring are good but E2 persists, the main control board may need replacement by a professional.
