Possible Causes

Failed ambient NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from housing, Damaged wiring between sensor and control board, Faulty main control board input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect the appliance from mains before accessing any external sensor housings.

Procedure:

  • Locate ambient sensor: On many Neff models, the ambient sensor is behind a small grille on the top or rear of the cabinet, or integrated near the condenser area.
  • Inspect housing and wiring: Check for physical damage, insect ingress, or broken wires.
  • Test sensor: Remove or disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at current room temperature. Compare to the NTC curve for your model. Replace if open, shorted, or clearly out of range.
  • Check harness continuity: Verify continuity from the sensor connector to the main PCB. Repair any breaks or corroded pins.
  • Replace sensor: Fit a genuine Neff ambient NTC sensor, secure it in the original location, and ensure the grille is not blocked.
  • Control board check: If a known-good sensor and wiring are present but E5 remains, the main PCB may be defective and should be evaluated by a professional.
