Possible Causes
Faulty refrigerator evaporator fan motor, Ice buildup around fan blades, Damaged fan wiring harness, Main PCB fan drive failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing any internal panels.
- Step 1 – Listen for fan operation: With doors closed for several minutes and unit powered, open the fresh food door and press the door switch to simulate a closed door. You should hear the evaporator fan running behind the rear interior panel. If silent or intermittent, proceed.
- Step 2 – Check for ice obstruction: Remove shelves and drawers from the refrigerator compartment. Unscrew and remove the rear inner panel to access the evaporator and fan. If heavy frost or ice surrounds the fan, carefully defrost using a hair dryer on low heat, keeping it moving and not too close to plastic parts.
- Step 3 – Inspect fan motor and blades: Spin the fan by hand; it should rotate freely without scraping. If stiff, noisy, or seized, replace the fan motor assembly.
- Step 4 – Wiring check: Inspect the fan connector and wiring for loose plugs or damaged insulation. Reseat the connector firmly into the fan motor and harness.
- Step 5 – Reassemble and test: Refit the panel, restore power, and check if H03 clears. If the error returns and the fan does not run despite proper voltage (requires multimeter), the main PCB may be faulty and should be replaced by a technician.
