Possible Causes
Failed freezer evaporator fan motor, Ice blockage around fan housing, Broken fan blades, Loose or corroded fan connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing the freezer interior panels.
- Step 1 – Confirm fan noise: After the unit has been running, open the freezer door and press the door switch. You should normally hear the freezer fan. If you do not, or it starts and stops, continue.
- Step 2 – Remove freezer drawers and panel: Take out baskets and shelves. Remove screws securing the rear freezer panel and gently pull it forward to expose the evaporator and fan.
- Step 3 – Check for frost buildup: If the fan is encased in ice, defrost the area using warm towels or a hair dryer on low. Do not chip ice with sharp tools to avoid damaging coils.
- Step 4 – Inspect fan assembly: Check that the fan blades are intact and not rubbing on plastic. Spin the fan by hand; if stiff or noisy, replace the fan motor assembly.
- Step 5 – Electrical connection: Verify the fan connector is fully seated and wires are not pinched or broken. Reseat the connector.
- Step 6 – Test: Reassemble, restore power, and monitor for H04. If the error persists and the fan still does not run, the main control PCB or fan drive circuit may be defective and should be diagnosed by a professional.
