Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before handling the ice maker assembly.
Step 1 – Reset the ice maker:
- Locate the Test/Reset button on the ice maker (usually on the side or bottom).
- Press and hold for about 3 seconds until you hear a chime and the ice maker begins a test cycle.
- If 26E returns or the test cycle fails, continue.
Step 2 – Inspect for jams:
- Remove the ice bucket and look for clumped or jammed ice in the ice maker tray.
- Clear any stuck ice with warm water (do not use sharp tools).
- Dry the area thoroughly and reinstall the bucket.
Step 3 – Check water supply to ice maker:
- Ensure the water filter is not clogged and is properly installed.
- Verify the water inlet valve is open and the supply line is not kinked.
Step 4 – Replace the ice maker assembly if faulty:
- If the ice maker does not move during test or makes grinding noises, replace the Ice Maker Assembly.
- Disconnect the harness, remove mounting screws, and install the new unit.
When to call a technician: If a new ice maker does not resolve 26E, the issue may be with the Main PCB or wiring and should be professionally diagnosed.
