Possible Causes

Failed ice maker thermistor, Loose or damaged ice maker harness, Ice buildup around ice maker sensor, Main PCB input fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing the ice maker.

Step 1 – Reset the code:

  • Press and hold Power Freeze and Power Cool for 8–10 seconds.
  • If 8E returns, continue with inspection.

Step 2 – Inspect the ice maker assembly:

  • Remove the ice bucket from the freezer or FlexZone compartment.
  • Locate the ice maker assembly and its wiring harness.
  • Check for heavy frost or ice around the ice maker and sensor area; defrost gently with a hair dryer if needed.
  • Ensure the harness connector is fully seated and not damaged.

Step 3 – Test/replace the ice maker sensor (advanced):

  • Disconnect the ice maker harness with the unit unplugged.
  • Use a multimeter to measure the thermistor resistance; compare to Samsung specifications.
  • If the sensor is out of range, replace the Ice Maker Assembly or the Ice Maker Sensor if it is a separate part on your model.

When to call a technician: If wiring and sensor test good, the issue may be with the Main PCB or internal ice maker electronics, which require professional diagnosis.
