Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing internal air ducts.
Step 1 – Locate the damper:
- The Refrigerator Air Damper is usually located between the freezer and fresh food compartments, often behind a cover at the top rear of the refrigerator section.
Step 2 – Inspect for ice or obstruction:
- Remove the damper cover.
- Check for ice buildup or foreign objects blocking the damper door.
- Defrost any ice with a hair dryer on low, keeping it moving.
Step 3 – Test damper operation:
- With the unit unplugged, gently move the damper door to see if it is jammed.
- Inspect the damper motor and gears for damage.
Step 4 – Replace the damper assembly if faulty:
- Disconnect the damper wiring harness.
- Remove mounting screws and install a new Refrigerator Air Damper Assembly.
- Reconnect wiring and reassemble covers.
Note: If rd persists after damper replacement, the Main PCB may not be controlling the damper correctly and should be checked by a technician.
