Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before working in the freezer.
Step 1 – Inspect back wall of freezer:
- If the rear panel is covered in frost or ice, the defrost system is likely not working.
Step 2 – Manual defrost:
- Unplug the unit and remove freezer drawers and shelves.
- Leave the door open for 24 hours to melt all ice (use towels to catch water).
Step 3 – Access and test components (advanced):
- Remove the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator.
- Locate the Freezer Evaporator Fan Motor, Defrost Heater, and Defrost Sensor.
- Test the fan for continuity and free movement; replace if faulty.
- Test the heater and sensor with a multimeter; replace any open or out-of-range parts.
Note: If all components test good, the Main PCB may not be controlling defrost cycles correctly and should be diagnosed by a technician.
