Possible Causes

Failed refrigerator evaporator fan, Defrost system failure in refrigerator section, Iced-over air ducts, Food blocking air vents

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing interior panels.

Step 1 – Check for airflow:

  • Place your hand near the air vents in the fresh food compartment; if little or no cold air is felt while the freezer is cold, airflow is restricted.

Step 2 – Inspect for frost on back wall:

  • Look at the rear interior panel of the refrigerator section.
  • If you see bulging or frost/ice on the panel, the evaporator is likely iced over.

Step 3 – Manual defrost:

  • Unplug the refrigerator and open doors.
  • Allow 24 hours for all ice to melt (protect floors from water).
  • This may restore cooling temporarily.

Step 4 – Check fan and defrost components (advanced):

  • Remove the rear interior panel to access the Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motor and Defrost Heater.
  • Test the fan for free movement and continuity; replace if faulty.
  • Test the defrost heater and sensor with a multimeter; replace any open components.

Note: If components test good, the Main PCB may not be initiating defrost and should be checked by a technician.
