Possible Causes

Defective freezer temperature sensor (thermistor), Broken or shorted sensor wiring, Loose sensor connector on main control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Disconnect power before accessing internal components. Sharp refrigerators contain sharp metal edges; wear cut-resistant gloves.

Steps:

  • Confirm the error: Note if the freezer is too warm or too cold while E1 is displayed.
  • Locate the freezer sensor: Inside the freezer, look for a small plastic cover on the rear or side wall near the evaporator area. Remove shelves and drawers as needed.
  • Inspect the sensor: Remove the cover and gently pull the sensor out. Check for ice buildup, moisture intrusion, or damaged insulation. Allow heavy ice to melt if the sensor is encased.
  • Test the thermistor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to Sharp’s service data if available; as a rule, NTC sensors should change resistance smoothly with temperature. Infinite or zero resistance indicates failure.
  • Replace if necessary: Install a new Sharp-compatible freezer thermistor, routing the wires along the original clips and reinstalling the cover.
  • Check wiring to PCB: At the rear control board, verify the freezer sensor harness is intact and firmly connected.

If E1 remains after sensor and wiring replacement, the main control board may be misreading the sensor and should be evaluated by a professional.
