Possible Causes

Failed evaporator defrost sensor (thermistor), Open or shorted sensor wiring harness, Corroded connector at evaporator or main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing panels or working near the evaporator coil.

Steps to address E2:

  • Access the evaporator area: Empty the freezer or refrigerator section where the evaporator is located (varies by model). Remove the rear interior panel by taking out screws and gently prying it off.
  • Locate the defrost/evaporator sensor: It is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or mounted on the evaporator frame with a small plastic clip.
  • Inspect for ice and damage: If the evaporator is heavily iced, allow it to defrost fully (leave unplugged with doors open and towels in place). Check the sensor body and wiring for cracks, corrosion, or breaks.
  • Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to expected NTC values; an open or shorted reading indicates failure.
  • Replace the sensor: Install a new Sharp-compatible evaporator/defrost thermistor. Clip it securely to the same location on the coil and route the wiring away from sharp edges.
  • Check harness and PCB connection: Follow the harness to the back of the unit and ensure the connector at the main PCB is secure and not burnt.

Persistent E2 after sensor replacement may indicate a control board fault and should be checked by a technician.
