Possible Causes
Defective ambient (room) temperature sensor, Sensor dislodged from its mounting location, Open or shorted sensor wiring to main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing exterior panels or toe-kicks.
Steps:
- Locate the ambient sensor: On many Sharp refrigerators, the ambient sensor is located behind the front grille, near the condenser area, or behind a small vent on the cabinet front.
- Inspect the sensor: Check that the sensor is not hanging loose or damaged. Look for crushed or cut wires.
- Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to typical NTC values; open or shorted readings indicate failure.
- Replace if faulty: Install a Sharp-compatible ambient thermistor and secure it in the airflow path as originally designed.
- Check PCB connection: Ensure the ambient sensor connector is firmly seated on the main control board.
If E5 persists, the main control board may be misinterpreting the sensor signal and should be checked by a professional.
